What happened in 2015
The image below shows the actual catchments from 2015. To access a school you need to live within a red or green catchment circle.
The resulting places "black hole" is shown below:
For those parents in the black hole the schools actually allocated are those shown with green and blue markers below. Children from a community were scattered among numerous schools that were up to the 28th nearest school and 3-4 miles away.
Actual and projected places and number of children
The following table shows the places issue in Roundhay/Wigton area:
- Based on standard Pupil Admission Number (more children taken via bulges in 2015 and 2016)
- 2014 bulges at Roundhay through School and Allerton CofE School
- 2015 bulges at Gledhow, Wigton Moor and Highfields
- 2016 bulges at Talbot and Allerton CofE School
- 2017 bulges at Moor Allerton Hall, Immaculate Heart and Allerton CofE School
- 2018-2020 projected data based on medical records
Why places in the wrong place don't solve the problem
Note how the Roundhay Primary Campus and Gledhow expansion have no real impact on places where they are needed:
Places at Moor Allerton Hall are only accessible if catchment is large. It is likely to be a temporary solution as if the school becomes good places will be available to many other "catchments" before all the black hole is covered.

Proposed land options for a new school
The remaining 2 sites being looked at are sites 1 and 3 in the image below:
Site 1 is currently used as a golf practice ground and site 3 next to the ring road is currently used as farmland.
